Kurt Cobains legendäre Akustikgitarre wird versteigert

Ein großes Stück Musikgeschichte

Auf der 1959er Martin D-18E hatte Kurt Cobain einen der berühmtesten Auftritte überhaupt gespielt: das MTV-Unplugged Konzert von Nirvana 1993. Dabei wurde ihr Live-Album MTV Unplugged in New York aufgenommen, das noch immer für viele das beste Live-Album überhaupt ist.

 
Fünf Monate nach dem Konzert nahm sich Kurt Cobain das Leben. Er und seine Band gelten als Erfinder des Grunges und haben mit ihrer Musik eine ganze Generation geprägt.

Am 19. und 20. Juni wird die Gitarre im Rahmen der "Music Auctions" versteigert. Hinter der Auktion steht "Julien's Auctions", der schon Sammlungen und Nachlässe von Stars wie Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Banksy und Cher versteigert hat.

Reuters, Rolling Stone, Spin and more are writing about today's announcement of Kurt Cobain’s 1959 Martin D-18E used in Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York, featured in our "Music Icons" auction taking place in Beverly Hills and live online at Julien's Live on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th. In what would become Nirvana’s most legendary performance, Kurt Cobain played his 1959 Martin D-18E in a live taping for the popular MTV Unplugged series on November 18, 1993. Approximately five months before his death, Cobain chose this guitar to paint what Rolling Stone called “his last self-portrait.” Perhaps the most important decision Cobain made for his MTV Unplugged performance was the "brush" he chose to paint the self-portrait that would ultimately be recognized as his greatest work. This 1959 Martin D-18E guitar was the only guitar he used throughout the entire MTV Unplugged performance. Cobain purchased this vintage Martin guitar and its vintage hardshell case at Voltage Guitar in Los Angeles. Both the guitar and its case were personally customized it prior to his MTV appearance and the set are being offered together in this auction. Twenty-six years later, Cobain’s MTV Unplugged performance remains the definitive self-portrait of a generation’s most transformative artist. Hinter der Gitarre steckt noch mehr

Eigentlich hatte Cobains Tochter Frances die Gitarre geerbt. Ihr Ex-Mann Isaiah Silva sagt allerdings, Frances hätte ihr die Gitarre geschenkt – im Mai 2018 gab ihm ein Gericht Recht. Wer die Gitarre jetzt aber anbietet, ist unklar.

Sicher ist aber, dass die Gitarre zusammen mit dem originalen Gitarrenkoffer ab Freitag im Schaufenster des Londoner Hard Rock Cafés stehen wird.

Das ist nicht das Einzige, was von Kurt Cobain zu ersteigern ist

Neben der Akustikgitarre werden auch die E-Gitarre, die Kurt Cobain im Jahr 1994 während der Tour zu In Utero zertrümmert hat (Startgebot 60.000 US-Dollar) und das Hemd, dass er in dem Video zu "Heart-Shaped Box" trug (Startgebot 10.000 US-Dollar), versteigert.
